Lucy Farrett
One random comedian, eight random questions; it's the ultimate test of funny person and fate.
This week we get pre-festive with Lucy Farrett, woman of a thousand faces - or at least 100, which she smashed together for this year's Edinburgh Fringe, at home, in a very manageable, lunchbreak-friendly less-than-19 minutes. Big movie directors, take note (of the character work... and the conciseness. Honestly, does everything need to be 150 minutes now?).
Ahem. Farrett stayed at home for the Fringe but is back on stage in East London next Tuesday, at the always joyous, Hackney Night Shelter-supporting Big Wowie! cabaret. So how would she describe her stage work, to, say, an older relative at a festive party?
"I pretend to be lots of different silly people because I like it, other people like it and also it is my job."
That should do it. And what might she be up to, in Hackney next week?
"I shall be bringing some classic characters from the Farrett Character Vault, as well as one or two newbies to spice things up a bit."
Comedy cabaret: it's the spice of life. That and cinnamon. Lucy Farrett, your Random 8 await:
Who was your childhood hero, real or imaginary?
Michael Palin. For his travel shows. Yes... I'll say that again. FOR HIS TRAVEL SHOWS. I wrote an essay on it and everything. They were great to be fair.
What's your favourite mode of transport, and why?
Anything Michael Palin approves of, for obvious reasons.
Ever met a surprisingly great or awful celebrity?
I once 'accidentally' stalked Alan Bennett in a greengrocers. It was all very 'Alan Bennett'.
Which TV show would you love to have been in, and which part?
Schitt's Creek and I shall be playing every single member of the Rose family. It's going to be like Big Momma's House. But obviously better for a myriad of reasons.
What's the most extreme thing you've ever done?
Put a spider in a glass and set it free.
Which place you've visited was the biggest anti-climax?
IKEA Greenwich. Varying levels of stock.
Your weirdest Christmas memory?
Thinking for a time that people watched or participated in boxing nationwide on Boxing Day. I'm still not sure. Please someone tell me. I've resisted a Google.
Who are you most envious of?
Little dogs that fit in bags.
Lucy Farrett appears at Big Wowie! on Tuesday 14th December at Grow in Hackney. Info & Tickets
