Stephen Fry - Live!

Stephen Fry

Stephen Fry is heading off on a short tour.

The comedian will be appearing at various venues to promote the new volume of his memoirs.

The promotional material explains: "The Fry Chronicles was the biggest 2010 autobiography in the UK, selling over 1 million copies worldwide. This new live event will mark the publication of Fry's brand new volume of memoirs, giving audiences a sneak preview of his courageously frank and funny account of his life story."

The tickets, priced at £29.50 plus a booking fee, appear to be particularly good value, as everyone who turns up to the show will be given a hardback copy of the new book, valued at £20. Fry will be signing copies of the currently un-named publication after the shows.

This will be the third volume of Fry's autobiography. Moab Is My Washpot, released in 2004, told the story of how Fry was "sent to a boarding school 200 miles from home at the age of seven" and "survived beatings, misery, love, ecstasy, carnal violation, expulsion, imprisonment, criminal conviction, probation and catastrophe to emerge, at eighteen, ready to try and face the world in which he had always felt a stranger."

The Fry Chronicles, launched in 2010, continued the story, focusing on "some of the most turbulent and least well known years of Fry's life".

Stephen Fry Live! will visit Manchester on the 24th September, Bristol on the 25th September, Sheffield on the 28th September and Edinburgh on the 29th September.

Additionally, the comedy star will appear at the Royal Festival Hall in London on the 1st October. Given the comedian's popularity, further dates are expected to be announced.

The publicity for the show adds: "Don't miss this rare opportunity to see the multi-award-winning comedian, actor, presenter, writer and raconteur on stage live in a one-man comic tour de force."

Fry's latest project is appearing as the Prime Minister in the new London-based series of the TV drama 24. The show starts on Sky1 next Wednesday.

News of the tour follows the announcement that Fry has received his first Tony award nomination. He has been recognised by judges for his Broadway debut as Malvolio in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.

Tickets for Stephen Fry Live! will be available from venues shortly. The Edinburgh and Bristol dates are already on sale. Due to high demand, the venues are only selling 4 tickets per customer.

Yesterday, the actor and comedian posted the following classic A Bit Of Fry & Laurie sketch to his 6.7m Twitter followers, remarking "Now Hugh Laurie really could bend a spoon."
