Peter Richardson to receive award at Bath Comedy Festival
The Comic Strip Presents... star Peter Richardson is to receive an award at this year's Bath Comedy Festival.
Richardson, who is widely credited as the mastermind behind the satirical Comic Strip Presents... TV films, will be presented with the Bath Plug Award for achievement in comedy.
A special evening has been organised as part of the city's annual festival, to celebrate 'the alternative madness' of The Comic Strip Presents... series.
'The Comic Strip Presents: Live In Bath' will take place on the 3rd April at Bath's Little Theatre Cinema. Following a screening of the most recent Comic Strip special - hacking satire Red Top - Richardson will take to the stage for an interview session.
Comedy historian Jem Roberts will "discuss over 30 years of classic films" with Richardson, including Bad News, Five Go Mad, The Strike, The Bullshitters and Eat The Rich. Across an hour, the duo will discuss in-depth the comedy world Richardson created alongside comedy stalwarts Alexei Sayle, Ade Edmondson, Jennifer Saunders, Dawn French, Robbie Coltrane, Keith Allen, Nigel Planer and 'the eternally missed' Rik Mayall.
The evening will also see Richardson presented with this year's Bath Plug Award. The engraved golden bath plug will be presented by Bath Comedy Festival director Nick Steel, before a first-ever big screen showing of a special 30th anniversary documentary bringing together the best of The Comic Strip Presents... films.
Peter Richardson says: "It's always a great treat to come up to Bath, and all the moreso to get to see Red Top on the big screen in such a beautiful cinema."
Jem Roberts adds: "Red Top is inspired by Boogie Nights, so it will be a real treat to see it in a proper cinema. Also, the idea of seeing Bad News or Mr Jolly Lives Next Door on the big screen was one of the chief reasons for inventing The Bath Plug Award in the first place, so we're all extremely pleased that Peter is making the trip up to Bath to allow us a wallow in over 30 years of comedy brilliance."
The Bath Plug Award was launched last year, with Terry Jones the first recipient.
'The Comic Strip Presents: Live In Bath' begins at the Little Theatre Cinema at 4.30pm on Sunday 3rd April, with tickets priced £10.50-£12.50, available from the cinema.
The Bath Comedy Festival runs from the 1st to 10th April 2016. www.bathcomedy.com
