The Play That Goes Wrong and its spin-offs

Have you heard of The Play That Goes Wrong? Audiences attending this very funny farcical play might witness everything go awry on stage, but behind-the-scenes things are going rather well indeed for creators Mischief Theatre.

Following multiple award wins for their original creation, Mischief are now branching out. As well as continuing to perform The Play That Goes Wrong in the West End, they are now working on two more comical productions too. Busy people! We take a look at all three below...

The Play That Goes Wrong

The Play That Goes Wrong

This production demonstrates how a brilliant script can catapult a small production and its previously unknown creators and cast into the big league. Initially performed as a fringe production, the show has since moved to the West End where it's become a multi award winning smash hit. The production is now 'stumbling into its second catastrophic year in London', with licensed productions now popping up around the world too.

The show focuses on The Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society, an amateur dramatics society who are proudly putting on a 1920s murder mystery play. However, as the title suggests, the accident-prone thespians have a few challenges between them and their final curtain call.

Amongst the many glowing reviews, The Guardian have labeled The Play That Goes Wrong as "very very funny", whilst The Times have called it "a masterpiece". Let's hope the group's trophy cabinet is better constructed than their set, as the show keeps picking up prizes, most recently a prestigious Olivier Award.

The Play That Goes Wrong looks set to be entertaining audiences for a long time yet, with bookings now being taken up to March 2017. Order tickets from BoxOffice.co.uk

Peter Pan Goes Wrong

Peter Pan Goes Wrong

This newer script from Mischief Theatre follows the same formula as their original hit, and features many of the same loveable characters from the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society.

This time the hapless group are attempting to visit Neverland with their production of Peter Pan. But, of course, it wouldn't be entertaining for us if everything went to plan for them, so audiences can expect technical issues, cast problems, 'bad' acting, dodgy props, and other such incompetence from the group.

The show, which was finessed on a recent tour, is set to arrive back in the heart of London this October. It'll be taking up residence in the prestigious Apollo Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue from the 20th October 2016 to 29th January 2017. You can book seats via BoxOffice.co.uk

The Comedy About A Bank Robbery

Comedy About A Bank Robbery

This new play from Mischief Theatre is different from the productions above in that the audiences won't be seeing anything going wrong. Instead, it's a tightly written farce that has been scripted by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields - the same trio that have penned the group's other shows.

Few details are currently known about the exact content of the show, however the title The Comedy About A Bank Robbery does give a rather big clue as to the premise. The tagline gives another hint of what we can expect: "One enormous diamond, six incompetent crooks and a snoozing security guard."

The show officially starts at the Criterion Theatre in London on the 10th April, with tickets booking through to October. It would be criminal to miss it, so purchase tickets on BoxOffice.co.uk

After something different?

If you've already seen Mischief Theatre's productions, or are after something with a little less farce in it, why not get tickets to one of the most anticipated shows of the year instead?

Funny Girl

Funny Girl: The Musical

Funny Girl, which has been entertaining audiences and picking up four and five star reviews at Menier Chocolate Factory, is now set to transfer to the Savoy Theatre in the heart of London, from the 9th April.

This musical production stars the multi award-winning stage and screen star Sheridan Smith. As BCG readers are no doubt aware, since Smith has left TV sitcoms behind she has moved on to pick up high praise in stage productions. Her performances in Legally Blonde The Musical and Flare Path have both earned her Laurence Olivier Awards.

Funny Girl is not your typical comedy but it is a light-hearted tale that offers some good laughs along the way. It tells the fascinating bittersweet story of Fanny Brice (Smith), whose vocal talents and comedic ability see her rise from Brooklyn music hall singer to Broadway star, and her tempestuous relationship with gambler Nicky Arnstein. The show features some of the most iconic songs in film and theatre history, including People and Don't Rain On My Parade.

Tickets are now booking until October 2016. Get Funny Girl tickets from BoxOffice.co.uk
