Over 60 comedians to perform at Latitude Festival 2013
Rewind a few years and pretty much the only comedy you could see at an outdoor music festival was people trying to put up their tents. However, over time festival organisers started to realise that comedians could perhaps entertain the assembled crowd too. Fast forward to today and many festivals now have a dedicated separate comedy tent.
Latitude, which is held in Suffolk each summer, is perhaps the music festival which has embraced comedy in the biggest and best way. For this year's festival (18th - 21st July 2013), a massive list of comedians will be in attendance to help spread laughs through the crowd. In fact, we've counted over 60 acts on the bill, and there's more names still to be announced.
Star stand-ups booked to perform at Latitude this year include 8 Out Of 10 Cats funnyman Sean Lock, multiple award-winning Russell Kane, rising star Roisin Conaty, the increasingly publicity savvy Lee Nelson, comedians' favourite Daniel Kitson, Last Leg star Josh Widdicombe and Black Books legend Dylan Moran.
It's not just stand-up you can see at Latitude. There's musical comedy available from the likes of Nick Helm, Loretta Maine and Jonny & The Baptists, plus sketch comedy from Pappy's and Idiots Of Ants. There's improv from the impressive Austentatious and super-slick The Noise Next Door and various quirky shows too, like Adam Buxton's Bug, which if you haven't seen before is best described as a show in which mixes awe-inspiring music videos with comedy.
Meanwhile recently announced for the Literary Arena is Robin Ince's infamous Book Club, which organisers say this year will involve Kevin Eldon and Jo Neary and involves 'a sexy twist'. Also in the Literary Arena is 'alternative comedy badboy' Keith Allen who is bringing the recently revived legendary sixties salon The Anti-Establishment Club to Latitude. Plus, prolific all-round actor, comedian and writer David Schneider will pop up to explore the pertinent question: 'Is the Internet Making Us More Stupider?'
Following on from a performance of his award-winning play Bravo Figaro! at Latitude last year; comic, activist and writer Mark Thomas will be also returning to the literary arena with a new show.
There's loads more comedy-related names we've not mentioned yet too, so - deep breath - here's a list of everyone announced so far...
