Altitude Festival 2013 announced

Altitude Festival. Andrew Maxwell

The line-up for Altitude Comedy Festival 2013, which takes place between the 18th and 22nd March this year, has been announced.

Altitude, which is based around the ski resort of Mayrhofen in Austria, is now firmly established as one of the most exciting and different comedy festivals in the calendar. Playing host to some of Britain and Ireland's biggest comedy talents, it mixes comedy and snow to deliver five unique days of slippery slopes during the sunlight hours and big laughs during the nights.

This year's line-up has again been curated by festival creator Andrew Maxwell (pictured), who has raided his address book to secure a number of top names. Of course, it helps that it's a festival many comedians want to play anyway, as Maxwell explained in a 2012 interview with us: "they get to hang out with their friends for the first time in a while" and that "with Altitude we always give each of the guys at least one night off so they don't need to get into a 'stage mind' but can just chill out, have a couple of drinks and watch the show like a punter."

So, without further ado, here is a list of some of the headliners that will be performing:

- John Bishop

- Andrew Maxwell

- Marcus Brigstocke

- Phill Jupitus

- Daniel Sloss

- Howard Marks

- Craig Campbell

- Brendon Burns

- Phil Nichol

Also performing will be German comedy star Michael Mittermeier, The International Improv Allstars, and stand-ups such as Benny Boot, Rob Beckett, Keith Farnan, Mark Walker and Kai Humphries. Troy Conrad and Paul Provenza will also be organising Set List, the gig format that tests the ability of comedians to think on the spot.

But that's not all - more topic comic names will be added to the line-up in the coming weeks, one of whom is one of the most famous comedians in the world - a man who has been selling out arenas since his rise to fame in the 1990s. Watch out for the announcement of who that is on the 4th March.

Commenting on this year's line-up, Andrew Maxwell says: "Ladies and Gentleman / Damen und Herren. We are back and looking forward to bringing you our sixth Altitude Festival. Get your laughing gear on and your lederhosen and strudel at the ready for a week of snow AND sunshine in Mayrhofen!"

Marcus Brigstocke, Maxwell's old partner in crime and who helped him establish Altitude, adds: "I'm so excited about Altitude this year, I was blown away when I found out the full line-up. This is truly growing into one of the best festivals in the world. I seriously cannot wait! Bring it on!"

A full week wristband for Altitude (18th - 22nd March 2013) is priced in the region of £180, and accommodation packages are available in the price range £350-£500.

Here's a video in which Andrew Maxwell tries (and fails) to record a sensible promotional video for the festival:
