Alex Bertulis-Fernandes

Alex Bertulis-Fernandes is the winner of the BCG Pro Talent Awards: Performance 2024.

Alex is a stand-up comedian and comedy writer. She was a Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year finalist earlier in the year, and a Channel 4 Sean Lock Comedy Award and Beat The Frog World Series finalist in 2023. She has also previously co-starred in White Chicks 2 at Soho Theatre and her jokes have been featured in The Guardian and The Telegraph.

She comments: "I'm really thrilled to have been chosen as this year's winner. This is one of the few comedy competitions where I've left feeling better about myself."

Hosted by Athena Kugblenu, the other finalists appearing in the live show were Samantha Day, Chris East, Eva & Hudson and Katy Swainston.

Gaj San

Gaj San, who was previously announced as the winner in the competition's Starter category, also performed during the live final held at London's Museum Of Comedy and was presented with a trophy.

Gaj is a West London born comedian who blends his comedic style as a mix of misdirection, lovable self-deprecation and abstract angles of the things tingling in our subconscious minds. He also draws upon his experiences from his life in the UK and living in Japan.

On receiving the news of his win, he said: "I am truly dumbfounded and grateful to achieve such a prestigious award from BCG. I was content just to get a login and a password, so to win the Starter award is an absolute dream, thank you!"

This was the fifth BCG Pro Talent Awards for Performance competition. To enter, comedians submitted videos through BCG Pro, British Comedy Guide's platform for comedy creatives, with judges selecting the best five acts to compete in the live final.

The judges this year were agent Richard Bucknall, promoter David Hardcastle, Lily Morris from Off The Kerb, promoter Jay Pond-Jones and Kathleen Price from Chambers Management.

The 2025 competition will open for entries in August. Find out more
