- Audience vote: Murph
- Judges' panel prize: Shannon Griffiths
The results of Beat the Frog World Series 2024, the new act competition at Manchester's Frog and Bucket comedy club have been announced.
Murph won the audience vote.
Meanwhile Shannon Griffiths was awarded the special panel prize.
The club explains: "Mancunian Murph, whose first gig was at the club and who has a tattoo of the Frog's logo on his bum, deservedly won the audience vote. The special panel prize, chosen by industry judges, went to the gloriously deadpan Shannon Griffiths."
The final, which took place last night (Monday 4th November), was hosted by Hayley Ellis and also featured Tabish Akbar, Sharifa Butterfly, Alfie Dundas, Donatas Kveselys, Ciara O'Connor, Bilal Rachid, Alex Redman and Maxine Wade.
The finalists has progressed through the competition's heats over the previous months. Beat the Frog - a weekly, gong-style new act night - grew out of The Frog's original amateur night. Three audience members are given red cards by the compere, then acts take to the stage aiming to deliver a full five minute set without being 'croaked off', which happens when all three of the red cards goes up. At the end, a winner is selected via a 'clap off', from those who 'beat the frog' and all those who win throughout the year are put forward to compete in the heats of the World Series each autumn.
