Bath Comedy Festival has awarded Julian Clary its Bath Plug Award for outstanding services to comedy. Meanwhile jazz pianist and singer Ian Shaw was presented with the inaugural OBP (Order of the Bath Plug) medal.
Festival director Nick Steel bestowed this year's Bath Plug Award on the stand-up comedian at the end of the show Clary was performing at Bath Forum. Last night's show (20th April) heralded the end of this year's Bath Comedy Festival.
Co-creator of the Bath Plug Award, comedy historian and author Jem Roberts says: "From the first glittering sight of The Joan Collins Fan Club with Fanny the Wonder Dog on Saturday Live, to his place today as the nation's most beloved dispenser of suggestive barbs, no comedian could more deserve the Bath Plug Award for comedy majesty than Julian Clary."
Nick Steel then went on to announce the brand new award - the Order of the Bath Plug - and presented the inaugural OBP medal to Clary's co-performer, renowned jazz pianist and singer Ian Shaw.
He said: "Alongside the Bath Plug Award for services to comedy, I'm launching this new medal-like award, the OBP, for all-round brilliance and being a jolly good egg!"
