Comedy Poster Awards winners revealed
- Olaf Falafel has won a second Comedy Poster Award
- Lou Sanders has also picked up her second poster prize
- Falafel won a public vote, whilst Sanders's entry charmed the judges
The annual Comedy Poster Awards have taken place at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
After six weeks of public voting for the Beer52 Audience Award, and a further choice made by a panel of industry judges for the Panel Award, two winners were announced last night, Sunday 26th August, at the end of the month-long arts festival.
Sponsored by Beer52 and Stannp, this awards were founded in 2014 by comedy producer Gina Lyons.
The winners were announced as Lou Sanders and Olaf Falafel - both of whom have won their respective prizes in recent years. Each takes home a £500 cash prize and a VQ digital radio.
Lou Sanders's poster for her show, Shame Pig, features a real pig. It was designed by Patrick Turpin, and features a photo by Idil Sukan.
Olaf Falafel's poster for his show There's No i In Idiot features his face covered in sticky eyes. He revealed on Twitter that it took four hours to stick more than 200 googly eyes onto his face for the photograph, which was taken by Alan Powdrill.
In excess of 300 posters were entered into this year's awards by comics, photographers and designers. All the entries, and more information about the awards, can be found on the Comedy Poster Awards website.
Awards founder Gina Lyons says: "2018 was another great year for posters and I love both winning designs. I urge more comedians to go bolder next year to prevent Olaf and Lou from cleaning out our prize pot AGAIN!"
The judges for this year's panel award were Chris Curley from Comedy Central; freelance comedy producer Rupert Majendie; Alice Jones, arts editor at i Newspaper; and Nerys Evans, head of comedy at Expectation Entertainment.
