Roast Battle. Rose Matafeo

Harry Hill, Rose Matafeo, Lolly Adefope and Nish Kumar are among the comedians announced as opening for post-punk band Yard Act later this year.

The Leeds act are performing a five-night residency at the Brundenell Social Club in their hometown in May and will have a different comic opening for them each night - Hill, Matafeo, Adefope and Kumar, plus a secret special guest "set to come out of retirement".

Hill quipped: "Yard Act made me cry - but once I'd got over the fee I jumped at the chance!"

The collaboration came about after Matafeo, who has previously appeared on stage with Franz Ferdinand, made contact with Yard Act's singer James Smith.

"Emboldened by mid-Glastonbury courage, I approached James in a crowd waiting to see Little Simz to tell him how much I loved Yard Act," she said. "Who knew it would pay off this hard! I'm very excited to share the stage with one of my favourite bands."

Comedians to have supported bands in the past include Ted Chippington opening for The Nightingales, Phill Jupitus appearing as his alter-ego Porky The Poet with The Clash, and Raymond Mearns touring with Pete Doherty. Jimmy Carr meanwhile, pretended to be a roadie for The Killers at Glastonbury.

Matafeo and her Starstruck co-star Emma Sidi are also the first guests on Ivo Graham and Alex Kealy's new podcast Gig Pigs, in which they recall their experience of collectively going to see a Franz Ferdinand gig.
