Catherine Bohart and Helen Bauer discuss Trusty Hogs
We talk to Catherine Bohart and Helen Bauer, the hosts of hit comedy podcast Trusty Hogs.
You recently published your 150th episode. How did the show start out?
Helen: Hogs started because we truly believe hogs are underrepresented in society and we thought that it was time to show the world how brilliant they truly are through a podcast! We knew it would get to 150 episodes, of course.
Catherine: The show actually started in a previous life. We are on episode 150 here but, in truth, we've made hundreds more.
Do you remember when you very first met?
Catherine: Cardiff. My first impression was that she was a wonderful kisser.
Helen: How could I forget when I first laid my eyes on Catherine Bohart. We were backstage at the Glee Club in the heats of the BBC New Comedy Award [2016]. She walked in so cool from the Megabus and I was enchanted. I said 'Hi my name is Helen Bauer and one day we are going to change each other's lives!' and she said 'I can't wait' and then we kissed for 4 mins.
How did the title come about? We heard you say in a recent episode there was some debate about using the word 'Hogs'.
Catherine: Helen forced 'Hogs' on me and I let her because, as I've said, she's a great snog. And I mean that professionally.
Helen: We just love hogs. I know we were in Soho when we were working on it. We just needed a name no one had used and HOGS ARE UNDER REPRESENTED!
Part of your show's format involves solving listener questions. Any particularly memorable highlights/lowlights from all your episodes?
Helen: Every episode and problem is a highlight! Obviously. (Apart from all the lowlights.)
Catherine: Wow, lotta highs, lotta lows. As we've said many times on the show, no one finds us when they are well. These piggies need our help and we're always happy to oblige... unless one of us is on our period or having a weird day.
The episode you recorded at the Edinburgh Festival this year is a very fun show. You're set to record in front of an audience again this October at the Cheerful Earful Festival? What can the audience expect?
Catherine: I expect you can expect to see Helen's boobs but she will, I expect, say not to expect that, so don't expect it.
Helen: Expect nothing. We are all hogs who deserve nothing but a pile of slop and a podcast.
As you head on towards Episode 200, any dream guests you'd like to invite on?
Helen: Princess Diana (RIP).
Catherine: Helen's mum.
Trusty Hogs: Live from the Cheerful Earful Podcast Festival will be at the Clapham Grand on Wednesday 16th October. Tickets
