On Easter Sunday (5th April 2015), as part of the Bath Comedy Festival, Monty Python star Terry Jones received the first ever 'Bath Plug Award'.

It was awarded to him by Festival director Nick Steel for "services to comedy for over fifty years".

Jones was at the festival for a screening of his 1996 film The Wind In The Willows. He took part in a question and answer session presided over by local comedy historian Jem Roberts, which covered everything from the actor, writer and director's experimental films at Oxford right up to his forthcoming new projects. Following the talk, there was also a special showing of Monty Python And The Holy Grail.

The presentation of the Bath Plug Award, which consists of a specially engraved golden bath plug on a purple silk ribbon, is to become an annual event as part of the Bath Comedy Festival and will be awarded to individuals considered by the organisers to have made a "significant contribution to British and world comedy".

Jones, who is one of the patrons of Bath Comedy Festival, started his TV comedy career in the 1960s, appearing with Michael Palin in shows such as Twice A Fortnight, The Complete And Utter History Of Britain and Do Not Adjust Your Set before they found fame alongside John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Terry Gilliam and Eric Idle in Monty Python's Flying Circus.

His post-Python work has included directing films such as Erik The Viking and providing a voiceover on programmes including the comedy series The Legend Of Dick And Dom.

Jones most recent project has been directing Absolutely Anything, a sci-fi comedy film starring Simon Pegg as a teacher who discovers he has magical powers. It will be released this Summer.
