Double act Hill & Weedon - aka Robin Hill and Theo Weedon - have been named the winners of the Musical Comedy Awards 2013.

The duo were crowned champions at a sell-out show at the Bloomsbury Theatre last night, where they performed a 10 minute set which included dinosaur impressions, a song about a ghost, and a track written especially for the Orcs in Lord of the Rings.

Hill & Weedon have been performing together for a few years, with previous credits including four years of the Mugging Chickens sketch show in Edinburgh (2009-2012), plus their debut show last August, titled The Hill and Weedon Show (or just Hill & Weedon). The comedy pair arrange themselves with Weedon as the 'straight man', playing a guitar, and Hill acting as a very physical performer and the lead singer.

Talking to BCG, Hill & Weedon say: "We are over the moon with our win! Performing at the final was the most fun we've ever had and winning was the icing on the massive, comedy cake! We can't thank the Musical Comedy Awards enough."

Jonny & the Baptists - aka Jonathan Donahoe and Paddy Gervers - were named runners up, with Tina Tea Lady, Tracey Collins's lyric-changing musical act based on Tina Turner, coming third. Also taking part in the final were Lucy Cox, Steve Seller and I Am, I Am.

Jenny Bede was named best newcomer. The actress, who has her own popular YouTube channel, has recently started performing live.

The Musical Comedy Awards, which are now in their fifth year, aim to find the musical comedy stars of the future. Previous finalists have included Frisky & Mannish, Abandoman, Jay Foreman and Rob Carter.

Founder Ed Chappel says: "We were so blown away by the brilliant new talent from this year's WeGotTickets Musical Comedy Awards - we can't believe it's over for another year! We're thrilled for this year's winner - Hill & Weedon - to quote one of our judges Nica Burns, 'Those boys have got funny bones!'. All of the Finalists delivered fantastic performances and we can't wait to invite them to our Edinburgh showcase later in August!"
