Dave Green wins Comedy Knights Fresh Comedian of 2014

Dave Green

Dave Green has been crowned the Comedy Knights Fresh Comedian of 2014.

Green, who has been performing stand-up for three years, beat more than 160 other London acts to make it into the final, which took place last night (Wednesday 17th September) at the Garden Bar in Notting Hill.

The organisers noted that he "shone through with his off kilter burst of unique humour."

Dave Green lives in Twickenham and when not performing comedy works as a barista. He has previously been a finalist in the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year, and made the final of the Leicester Square Theatre's New Comedian competition.

On being announced the winner, he was characteristically to the point, saying "Thank you". He later tweeted: "Last night I won the bloody Comedy Knights Fresh Comedian Comp! Proper chuffed."

Hackney local Joe Sutherland was awarded runner up after a 'storming set'. The organisers noted: "A strong favourite with the crowd, his high status arrogance and tales of all around superiority over everyone had shades of a young Julian Clary."

Bobby Carroll, who runs Comedy Knights, said of the winners: "Dave is just awesome, it's all there in terms of jokes and writing. He is crowd pleasing while offering a very unique outlook. I rate all our finalists. I think they are all champions to make something of themselves on such a tough and unforgiving circuit that is London. I look forward to working with all of them in the future especially our worthy winner Dave and Joe Sutherland, who has that star potential you just can't learn or earn."

Green won a £300 cash prize, the promise of work with the Comedy Knights chain, and 'a personalised notebook to keep his future ideas fresh'. Sutherland was awarded £100 and a notebook.

The judging panel comprised of Steve Bennett from the website Chortle, Jo Williams from PBJ Management and Paul Howland from Glorious Management.
