Be a judge for the Edinburgh Comedy Awards 2013

Foster's Edinburgh Comedy Awards

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is where you can experience of the best stand-up in the world (and perhaps the worst too, admittedly). Each year the Edinburgh Comedy Awards aims to single out the very best acts from the 1000s performing at the festival, and the list of previous winners features many recognisable, now A-list, names.

Think you could handle more than 100 hours of comedy in two weeks? Then you may have what it takes to be a Foster's Edinburgh Comedy Award Panellist, and help pick which show is awarded the prize in 2013.

The deadline to apply is 10th May 2013.

The Edinburgh Comedy Awards are offering you the chance to join the judging panel. You will be deciding both the most outstanding original comedy act and the best newcomer comedy act at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The winners and the nominees go on to showcase their work at the Foster's Edinburgh Comedy Award Shows in London's West End, and gain much media attention and other related bonuses off the back of winning, so it's important the judges get their decision right.

You need to be a regular visitor to live comedy and have bags of energy. You will be expected to see six shows a day; and you'll be feeding back your opinions of what you've seen and contributing to official panel meetings and the process of finding the winners.

Edinburgh Comedy Awards 2012. Phil Burgers

Oscar Cainer, who was one of the public panellists in 2012, the year that Doctor Brown (pictured) won the main prize, says of his experience: "To be part of such a prestigious award at the heart of possibly the world's most vibrant cultural festival was a giddy privilege. It's an intense experience: there's a lot to see and take part in but if you like your belly full of laughs, your head full of ideas and your days, well, just full, there is no better trip to take. Just bring your best walking shoes and try to keep up!"

To be eligible you must be available to stay in Edinburgh for two weeks from August 10th to 24th, so if you've got a job you'd need to book all that time off. However, in return, the Awards team will provide accommodation, travel, show tickets and invitations to the best parties in town!

Here's more details on how to enter...

1. Tell the organisers in approximately 350 words why you are the best candidate.

2. Write three short reviews of your three favourite live comedy acts.

3. Entries must reach the organisers by 10 May 2013. Send your entry to panellist@comedyawards.co.uk, or Edinburgh Comedy Awards Panellist, 1 Lumley Court, Off 402 Strand, London WC2R 0NB.

If you are shortlisted, you will be required to attend an informal interview in London on either 30th or 31st May 2013. Travel expenses will be reimbursed. The winners will be announced in mid-June.
