The dream comedy cast for Harry Potter?

Adam Larter of the Weirdos Comedy Collective is set to star as Harry Potter in their latest parody, which is due to be performed in London on the 14th May. Here he dreams of his ideal cast...

One day I'll have the budget to create the comedy Harry Potter fan fiction the world deserves with a top-class A-list cast. For now, I have to use the ramshackle idiots that make-up Weirdos Comedy.

This is how a limit-less budget Comedy Harry Potter should be cast (cast - geddit?)...

Andrew Lawrence

Luna Lovegood: Luna has some crazy theories about things - she worries all her crazy theories mean that no one will respect her. Therefore it'd make great sense that she was played by Andrew Lawrence.

Daniel Kitson

Rubeus Hagrid: He's not allowed to do magic properly because he got in trouble a while back, so he keeps an eye over the students and gives them good advice. Generally retiring from the limelight - he still a giant and a welcome but large presence for young wizards. Plus you want to give him a big hairy hug - he's obviously Daniel Kitson.

Dapper Laughs. Daniel O'Reilly

Professor Snape: Snape was a good guy all along. He was just pretending to be a bad guy... a character you say? Ask Potter's mother - she knows. Snape is Dapper Laughs.

Josie Long. Copyright: Idil Sukan

Hermione Granger: Hermione speaks her mind, she's generally regarded as being pretty bright and academic but underneath all of that she's very likeable. A fan fave for many Potter fans - she should be played by Josie Long.

Dylan Moran

Remus Lupin: Full of charm, world weary, he's a teacher but actually you just want him to be your buddy. I would definitely definitely cast Lupin as Dylan Moran.

Woody Allen

Harry: Obviously, I am Harry Potter. I really identify with Harry as a character. His defining features - he's white, he's male and he wears glasses. Also he has a cracking ability to never display any emotion. I get Harry - but if I couldn't play Harry I think Woody Allen would be the ideal Harry Potter. All the emotional issues are there, the world weariness... and he wears glasses.

Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle. Stewart Lee. Copyright: BBC

Dumbledore: Great actors have played Dumbledore; Richard Harris, Michael Gambon, Gareth Morinan but if I could cast anyone as the great wise wizard it would have to be Stewart Lee - the younger wizards want to be like him and he's wise - still has an edge. There's a nice analogy between Stewart Lee's well documented live performances and analysis like there is Dumbledore's pensive.

'Harry Potter and the House Elves On Strike (An Unofficial Sequel)' - sadly not starring the above cast but a ramshackle crew including Joz Norris, Matt Tedford, Marny Godden, Cassie Atkinson, Eleanor Morton, Jon Brittain and Gareth Morinan - is at the Leicester Square Theatre on Saturday 14th May 2016.
