Art, photography and design in marketing has again been recognised at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

The Comedy Poster Awards, now in its 10th anniversary year, announced its 2024 winners during a ceremony hosted by stand-up comedian and film maker Joe Bor (pictured above, left).

Audience Award

The Audience Award - based entirely on a public vote of all entries - was won by Abi Clarke's (pictured top, right) poster for her acclaimed show (Role) Model. From a photograph shot by Dylan Woodley, it was designed by Jonny Woolley (pictured top, centre). Olivia Davey created Clarke's make-up.

In a written statement alongside their submission, the team explained: "The poster is Joan of Arc burning at the stake but as if it was an America's Next Top Model photoshoot challenge. There are nods to social media such as the satchel being an iPhone but it was mainly made to make Abi's ex jealous."

Panel Award

From the previously announced shortlist, the smartly illustrated poster for Deep Fried in Patter picked up the judges' prize. For a show performed by Iain Pringle and Paddy Linton, James Lawrence created evocative artwork picturing the two stars as battered sausages.

The panel consisted of Laura Burch, founder of marketing agency Work & Class; Christopher Slevin, creative director at Inkling Culture; and Director of Communications for Content at Sky, Alice Jenkins-Bruce.

Organised by British Comedy Guide, the results were announced at Gilded Balloon's Patter Hoose. The Panel Award winner receives a £300 cash prize courtesy of Gobby Girl Productions. The Audience Award winner receives £200 in cash from Gobby Girl, and an assortment of poster placements around Edinburgh at next year's Fringe, representing more than £600 in value, courtesy of Out Of Hand, the city council's partner.

Gina Lyons, creator of the Comedy Poster Awards and founder of Gobby Girl, says: "I'm thrilled with the two winners this year. Posters have to do a lot of heavy lifting in a city so full of them, and these two stood out to the audience and the judges because they are, in a word, brilliant."
