Gerard Butler denied entry to Andy Roach's Fringe show
It doesn't matter who you are, if you're arriving late to an Edinburgh Fringe show you might not be allowed in.... as film star Gerard Butler discovered.
Butler rocked up at Just The Tonic at the Caves to see Andy Roach: Laughing at Conspiracy Theories, but as he turned up after the 9:30pm start time, he was denied entry.
The star of films such as 300 and How To Train Your Dragon had been directed to the wrong venue by Google Maps. He hung around in the bar for a while, and it was a chance encounter after the show for performer Andy Roach that revealed he had missed out on having a famous face in his audience.
Speaking to British Comedy Guide, Roach says: "Although I understand Gerard's frustrations, rules are rules, and you must buy tickets early and arrive on time to see Laughing at Conspiracy Theories. I can't make any exceptions, even for a Spartan. The show runs until 25th August, so there's plenty of time for him and other Hollywood stars to catch it."
The comic jokingly adds: "He's a good guy, and I told him he's always welcome... just set off 5 minutes earlier next time. We're talking about doing a buddy cop movie together next year... watch this space."
Laughing at Conspiracy Theories sees Roach looking at "the current trend towards conspiracy thinking across the potentially flat earth". He explains: "I talk about one or two of my own - The Titanic, drugs in sport, Paul McCartney... then the audience share some of their own. The show ends with one lucky winner being 'crowned' the Best Conspiracy Theorist - in a tinfoil hat."
