Broadcaster, TV presenter, journalist, author, Manchester music authority. Notorious and outspoken. Host of Channel 4's The Word. Winner of two Sony Radio Academy awards. Recovering Catholic. United fan. Grew up in inner city Manchester, his 1981 first appearance on national TV leading to a career on BBC Radio Derby, then Manchester's Key 103 FM in 1988. Played a pivotal role in what would later become dubbed the Madchester scene. Books include: Brothers - from Childhood to Oasis; Reds in the Hood, about early life in Old Trafford; My Word, a frank look at 1990s television.
