NZ improv show SNORT is back for Edinburgh 2022
New Zealand's favourite improv show and the sell-out hit of the 2019 Fringe is set to return this August. We find out more from those involved...
Tell us a bit about Snort - what's the format?
Snort is a show made up entirely on the spot - we take a word from the audience and three special guest monologists will do a short spiel based on that word, then the cast of Snort will perform a series of improvised scenes based around that word and monologue. Each show is completely different.
Who are the members of Snort?
Our cast for the Pleasance show includes NZ comedians Rose Matafeo, Alice Snedden, Nic Sampson, Eli Matthewson, Laura Daniel, Joseph Moore, Paul Williams, James Roque, Brynley Stent, Rhiannon McCall, Freya Finch and Alice Canton. The cast rotates every night, so every show is different.
What might we know you from?
Rose is probably best known in the UK for her sitcom Starstruck as well as appearances on TV shows like Taskmaster.
Alice Snedden and Nic Sampson have both also appeared on Starstruck and written for the series.
Our other NZ comedians are all regulars on various TV shows in New Zealand including Taskmaster NZ, Dancing With The Stars, and Celebrity Treasure Island. Many of our cast are also previous winners or nominees of the biggest comedy awards in the country.
What's your craziest audience interaction story?
N/A.
What part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe are you most excited for?
We are just excited to leave the country for the first time since the pandemic started and get to perform overseas again! Snort had a sellout season in 2019 at Edinburgh and we're hoping to smash it again this.
