Larry Dean once nearly ate his headphones

Hot on the heels of his national tour, double Edinburgh Comedy Award-nominee Larry Dean returns to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August with his show Fudnut.

Tell us a bit about your show.

It originally was about something else for the 2020 Edinburgh Fringe, now it's probably got about 20% of that left because a lot of stuff has happened since then. Well, obviously.

What makes you laugh?

People being silly. My friends. Cat videos. Fail videos.

What's the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to you?

I don't get embarrassed that easily, I think you have to get over that or you'd never go on stage. Off the top of my head though, I once had Maltesers driving on the way to a gig, dropped some. On the way back I reached for my drink and felt a Malteser, put it in my mouth. Crunched down. Then I realised I'd just tried to eat one of my Apple headphones.

How do you deal with hecklers?

Really depends on the situation. I remember on one of my first ever gigs I got heckled and I went too harsh. I can't write what I said that gig, but a comedian on the bill gave me great advice. You have to gauge how harsh they have been out of 10 and respond with something at the same level as they have given or a wee bit higher.

That gig I took a 2/10 heckle and responded with a 10/10 harsh response. The other way around would doesn't work either, you don't want to respond to someone calling you a f**king p***k by saying "don't interrupt silly."

What are you most looking forward to at this year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe?

Seeing all my friends. Usually, you only bump into other comics by chance when you're touring. Now they are all trapped in the same city as me for a month.
