Emo Majok is excited to be heading to Edinburgh

Emo Majok

Emo Majok is set to bring his first show to the Underbelly throughout the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August, where he digs deep into his experiences of culture-clash with a selection of side-splitting stories and anecdotes, ranging from time spent in a refugee camp in East Africa, to tales from his childhood. African Aussie is not one to miss.

Describe yourself in three words.

Father, determined, cultured.

Are you excited to come to Edinburgh?

I am extremely excited to be heading to Edinburgh this year as an internationally signed comedian. I'm very proud of the team behind me and I'm excited to see what this year will bring. I can't wait to land and get started.

Would you describe yourself as an optimist or a pessimist?

I would most definitely describe myself as an optimist. I believe working in this industry you have to try not to take yourself too seriously, at the same time remind yourself that this is the work that you have chosen to do.

I believe, the past couple of years, covid has taught me to be resilient and think outside the box. I hope to adapt this mentality going forward for as long as possible.

What inspired your material?

My material is inspired by mine and my family's life. Coming from a refugee camp in East Africa to adjusting to normal life in Australia. The audience gets to hear all the side-splitting stories of the refugee family adjusting into western life.

What will you miss about Australia while you're away for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe?

To be honest, I would have to say I would miss my kids the most being in Edinburgh. I have three beautiful children that live in Perth and it gets harder to leave them every single time. But they understand that travelling is a part of daddy's job and have become my bigger supporters.
