Remember OMD before OMG, Phil Oakey's fringe and onyx ashtrays? Tales of growing up before the New Romantics landed in 80s Leeds, with threads of a Catholic upbringing, Irish mother and our Kelly - sister, not the rapper. How Steve Strange, the Spandau Ballet boys and synth players called Roland marked the end of a black and white childhood of Artex ceilings and... the Black and White Minstrels. How a move south means struggling to not let flat vowels and the northern slip out, and only taking showers to avoid saying 'bath'.
