Take away the ability to put a scare into the living and what purpose does a ghost have? Sir Simon has been successfully haunting Canterville Chase for over 300 years, but no amount of clanking chains or reappearing bloodstains will scare the new American owners away. Despite the ghost's efforts to appear in gruesome guises such as the Blood Sucker of Bexley Moor, the Otis family are not remotely deterred. Eventually, he finds a sympathetic ear and tells the tragic tale of his lost wife. However, when the listener disappears with him through the wainscoting, panic ensues.
