Luisa Omeilan interview

"My grandfather flew for the RAF in the Second World War, and was settled by the government in Bristol. My parents came over 40 years ago. Polish was my first language, and nobody here spoke it when I was born. So my first bit of comedy was making the neighbours' kids laugh, by being really clowny and physical. I love making foreigners laugh; where I have to reach them just with personality."

More details

Fresh from filming her BBC Three series of the same name, comedy phenomenon Luisa Omielan (What Would Beyoncé Do?! and Am I Right Ladies?!) is back with her eagerly anticipated third stand-up show at the Edinburgh Fringe this year. Politics For Bitches will headline the Gilded Balloon's largest space, the Debating Hall.

Luisa recently lost her mother to a short but brutal battle with cancer. Like most of us, Luisa had a self-proclaimed naivety and ignorance to UK politics but the recent tragic circumstances forced her to pay attention.

Politics For Bitches is an attempt to make people aware of the current climate, discussing socio-political issues including cannabis oil, euthanasia, and palliative care, the NHS, housing and education. With her warm, relatable, no bullsh*t flavour she commands the audience and brings a relatable understanding through comedy.

As ever with Luisa, expect an uplifting, powerful and inspiring show packed full with heart, emotion and laughter. Not to mention her very large hairy assistant, Bernese mountain dog Bernie who accompanies her on stage throughout the run.

The show is in association with Helena's Hospice foundation, the charity Luisa has set up this year in her mum's name to provide home comforts to hospices around the UK.

Luisa is a powerhouse comedian, leading and paving the way with her unique style. Her presence is unforgettable, commanding a room like no other as her very loyal and well deserved army of fans follow her into battle. There's a real joy to her shows and a genuine connection to the audience with a vivacious confidence mixed with soul-baring sensitivity. Luisa's shows are a moving, hilarious and special experience and you won't see a show or a performer like it. Bitches, it's time to rise.

Luisa has recently hosted Comic Relief alongside Jonathan Ross and Lenny Henry, appeared on BBC One's Live At The Apollo, currently has over 45 MILLION views on her Thigh Gap routine online and sold out venues such as the Shepherds Bush Empire, the O2 Forum and the Clapham Grand.
