Kevin Precious

Kevin Precious is a former religious studies teacher. He's also a non-believer who attends his local humanist group. Unholier Than Thou features jokes and stories about teaching religious studies as a non-believer, being a humanist, the God-shaped hole and little bits here and there relating to the philosophy of religion. 'Kevin's stage charisma and poise set him head and shoulders above the previous acts' (Times). 'Instantly recognisable stage presence and boundless wit' (Leicester Mercury at the Leicester Comedy Festival).

More details

Kevin Precious is an ex-Religious Studies teacher turned stand-up comedian who also happens to be a non-believer who frequents humanist groups. The number 1 question he was asked on Parents' evening was 'Are you Religious, Mr Precious?' and this show seeks to explore how his solid non-believer status was actually an advantage in guiding questioning young minds.

In Unholier Than Thou: The Non-Believing Religious Studies Teacher Kevin (a)muses on his experiences in teaching RE to teenagers as a non-religious person, being a sceptic humanist agnostic, the philosophy of religion and the God-shaped hole.

More about Kevin

Kevin has had something of a long and varied career in entertainment, starting off as a teenage bass playing dirt bag. His musical adventures progressed, including playing in all kinds of different bands, the culmination of which saw him perform at the legendary Ronnie Scott's and in as exotic locations as Reykjavik and Japan. In the 1990's, Kevin set up a 'Pop Quiz' in a trendy boozer in Camden, which rapidly became laden with indie type A-listers and led to him compereing the NME's first national Pop Quiz.

Kevin has performed sets at top venues all over the country inc: The Glee; The Stand; Downstairs at The Kings Head; The Comedy Cafe; and The Frog and Bucket. Added to this, he has worked for leading comedy agencies such as Off the Kerb and Christian Knowles Productions as well as running his own Promotions company Barnstormers Comedy across the UK.

In 2008, he compered the 'Loaded Lafta' awards, presenting awards to acts including Jimmy Carr, Adam Buxton, Paul Kaye, and Harry Enfield. In 2014, he appeared at a night dedicated to Dennis Skinner which also featured author and commentator Owen Jones.

His debut Edinburgh Fringe show in 2015 was Gecko. Prior to debuting at the Edinburgh Fringe, Kevin toured the country's arts centres and theatres with his original show entitled Not Appropriate; a show dedicated to the business of teaching as a whole. Such was the success of the show that in many instances, he put in return appearances at the various venues. He's also performed various versions of Not Appropriate at teacher conferences, and in schools by way of staff entertainment.
