Where does the love go?
An "absurdist, avant-garde, funk opera", Where Does The Love Go? is set after the first space war of Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, with a lone detective on the hunt for love.
Where does the love actually go?
The love goes wherever it wants, whenever it wants. It's everywhere at all times. You might not be able to see it or feel it but you have to believe it because the love is always with us. Sometimes it's harder to spot than you'd think but most of the time it's right in front of your face.
Who put the funk into clowning?
We put the punk in clown.
Sounds like it's going to be one big party?
Baby, everythang we do is one big party! Of course we want everyone to be blown away and leave with a newfound love for life - but above all we just want everyone to have a good time. Most people think of chaos and idiocy when they think of us but there's still a strong theatrical element to what we create. We're hoping to go further in that direction this year and see where it goes.
How did this all actually come together?
Thump's lead singer Lucas Tamaren wrote the opera last year but we only started working on it a few months ago. We actually met them all back in LA in 2016 when Zach and Lucas dated two girls who were best friends. Both of them got their hearts broken (young love) and vowed to make beautiful art together in order to fill the massive hole in their hearts. This show is the result of that. It is very serious art that should be taken very seriously.
Can clowns find love?
Oh yes. All the clown wants is to love and be loved by whomever is in front of him. The clown survives off love and laughter, and the only way he gets there is if he shares his pleasure and humanity with the audience. Everyone is perfect, everything is beautiful.
Zach & Viggo + Thumpasaurus: Where Does The Love Go? was performed at the 2018 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
