DROLL
In 1642, theatre was made illegal. Theatre didn't die. The award-winning Owle Schreame theatre company present a chaotic and semi-improvised selection of rough, wild, raucous and bawdy, short (illegal) plays from the 16th and 17th centuries. Unperformed for almost 400 years, Drolls were the farcical, chaotic mini-productions held in secret during the outlawing of the theatres, usually finishing with the cast getting dragged to jail. Every performance is unique. Described as innovative, interactive and genuinely engaging, 'this rare oddity of a production is bacchanalia, call-the-police, drunken theatre: not to be missed. Don't' ***** (Guardian).

So. So. So, SO FUNNY.
Loud, raucous, daft and really, really interesting. I've seen 20 shows so far this year and this dwarfs the rest. DROLL is my total pick of the fringe, one hundred percent.
This ramshackle troupe of half-drunk players begin proceedings by playing music and explaining the fascinating history behind the drolls inbetween bickering amongst themselves, infights and slip ups. Things really get going when they perform the droll itself, and I promise you that you'll be literally crying with laughter throughout. I couldn't breathe at points. Bloody hilarious.
Milk, makeup, violence, sex, and everyhing else that you could want from a fringe show. Please support these guys, if not for them then for yourselves! I had such a wonderful time.
I for one will be coming back for more, and I heartily recommend that you do the same.
Top marks, 5 stars, absolutely bloody marvellous.
