2016 Edinburgh Fringe
Spencer Jones Presents The Herbert in Eggy Bagel
The multi award-winning, BAFTA-nominated star Spencer Jones brings his comedy alter ego and total idiot, The Herbert, to Edinburgh with the brand new show, Eggy Bagel. A mash-up of visual comedy, strange music, props and characters. A story about wheelbarrows, dads, evil water and eating too much chocolate. Comedian voted Barry Award winner for Best Performer and Best Show in Edinburgh 2015. The Guardian, 9th August 2016Ten must see character acts at Edinburgh Fringe 2016
At this time of year, hundreds of middle-class drama students descend upon Edinburgh to showcase their "talent" in poorly crafted one-act plays and under-rehearsed sketch shows. And, if you're visiting the world's biggest arts festival, there's always a danger you'll be bamboozled by fat marketing budgets and slick sales patter into gracing these artistic abortions with your presence. To help you avoid that pain, here's my recommendations for ten character acts you should go and see instead.
Jay Islaam, The Huffington Post, 9th August 2016Seven questions with... Spencer Jones (aka The Herbert)
Spencer Jones is a stand up comedian and actor best known for his absurd style of character comedy, as The Herbert, where he utilises music, mime and props. Perhaps the true essence of escapism, Spencer's stand up is ridiculous, illogical and childish, and The Herbert is a truly endearing character, with a cheeky glint in his eye that forces an audience onside within minutes. Jones has also recently been involved in Ben Elton's latest sitcom, Upstart Crow, where he portrays the Shakespearean comedic actor Will Kemp. Jones presents two shows as The Herbert at this year's Edinburgh Festival: Proper Job and Eggy Bagel.
