Tiffany Stevenson: 10 Edinburgh Fringe questions
Tiff Stevenson answers 10 questions about her 2016 Edinburgh Fringe show...
Give us a quick overview of your comedy career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?
I started doing stand-up proper in 2006 which was also the first year I went to the Edinburgh fringe. I was acting in the play Talk Radio which we performed in an upside down purple cow. It prepared me in all ways but also no practical ways for a career in comedy
So I've been doing it 10 years, I play the clubs I like and tour my own shows too. I have just come back from my first Montreal Comedy Festival so that was pretty exciting... so much amazing stuff from around the world.
I think I maintain a nice mix of stand up and panel shows on TV ... Mock The Week, The Weekly, Stand Up Central etc with acting jobs such as People Just Do Nothing.
I also have a couple of my own projects on the go, which are very important to me as I like to feel like I'm steering the ship! For the second half of the fringe it's Casting Call Woe a project I have written with my friend @proresting and I also have a sitcom pilot with Rich Hall.
I work really hard but I feel pretty fortunate at the same time as there is a lot that you can't control. I remember a while back envisioning my perfect week and I feel like I'm getting closer to it
I feel that female comics get held back more than the guys but when we are ready to pop we pop... there are just so many fizzing with potential.
Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself (but mix them up, keep us guessing!).
1. I play guitar really well.
2. I am very messy.
3. I eat cheese and peanut butter crackers in bed.
Describe your new show in exactly 23 words.
Some tweets I wanted to write about Paris but couldn't quite get right. Contains Trump, Reproductive Rights, Immigration, Josh Homme, Cameron & Louisiana.
Any cunning plans to get more punters in?
I was just thinking about making the show really good. Failing that maybe running up and down the Royal Mile in my pants and calling it 'a political act' . Whatever happens I hope to be 'culturally essential'
What's your plan for trying to eat - and drink - healthily during the Fringe?
I'll be going to the gym every other day. I have to for my mental health. That should help offset all my late night food binges, cut me and I'll bleed battered sausage.
I try to drink one fruit juice a day to trick my body into vitamins... that or I'll play a fruit machine... that counts as one of my five a day right?
What will you miss most while you're away from home?
My cat, he's an absolute turd but even turds are loveable sometimes.
Also my car, if the sun is out I have the roof down and I pose like a lunatic in an 80's business movie.
Aside from performing, what else are you looking forward to doing in Scotland's fine capital?
Walks up Arthur's seat and a bit of fine dining over the month - The Witchery, The Honours etc.
Also I like just wandering around on the Royal Mile trying to guess which people are hungover and which are doing street theatre.
If I can make it out the beach I will, if not Leith will do.
If you took over programming a Fringe venue, what would your perfect line-up of comedians be?
James Acaster
Wanda Sykes
Roisin Conaty
Rich Hall
Mark Thomas
Nish Kumar
Dave Chappelle
JB Smoove - I saw him in Montreal and he was exceptional
Maria Bamford
Kevin Bridges
Eleanor Tiernan & her slightly less well known cousin Tommy
Stuart Black - who has sort of stopped doing stand-up and I'm putting his name here in the vain hope he will return.
I would also have an all star beyond the grave line up of:
Joan Rivers
Victoria Wood
George Carlin
Richard Pryor
Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.
Donald Trump he is always Scottish bothering isn't he? I have a fair amount about him in my show this year so it would be awkward
Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,800+ other Fringe offerings listed on BCG this year?
Because I am absolutely the best comedian in the world, no take backs and prone to hyperbole
'Tiff Stevenson: Seven' is at Assembly Roxy at 7:10pm until the 28th August. Listing
