Taylor Glenn: 10 Edinburgh Fringe questions
Taylor Glenn answers 10 questions about her 2016 Edinburgh Fringe show...
Give us a quick overview of your comedy career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?
I suppose it really started when I was in New York, practicing as a psychotherapist but in the evenings I'd do improv and sketch comedy and I loved it. People would tell me to try stand-up but I was terrified of being up there by myself. I moved to the UK and did my first gig in 2010 in Cardiff, where I was living at the time. I was hooked and wound up winning a competition called the Welsh Unsigned Stand Up Award and that gave me confidence to continue and I went full time and gigged all over the UK and a lot of Europe too.
After my daughter was born, I focused more on scriptwriting and blogging and was afraid to get back on stage - but wound up writing this year's show about parenthood. I feel ready to really blast back into it now so hopefully some good things will come of it...
Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself (but mix them up, keep us guessing!).
I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a mother.
Describe your new show in exactly 23 words.
It's a delightfully dark and honest look at the never-ending journey of parenthood and it's for parents and non-parents alike. Um, right?
Any cunning plans to get more punters in?
I started flyering at kids' shows. I approach the parents and tell them to get a sitter and come see the show. One woman brought her newborn the other night which was awesome. Also I tweet a lot using hashtag #aBillionDaysofParenthood.
What's your plan for trying to eat - and drink - healthily during the Fringe?
I've been pretty healthy and restrained with drinking because I'm up here with my three-year-old this time - she wakes as early as 5 some days so I can't afford the hangovers!
What will you miss most while you're away from home?
I miss my husband and how he wakes up with her at 5 so I don't have to and so I can have a hangover.
Aside from performing, what else are you looking forward to doing in Scotland's fine capital?
I have been seeing as many shows as I can, I'm loving the variety of comedy this year especially. Such high standards.
If you took over programming a Fringe venue, what would your perfect line-up of comedians be?
Oh man, my head is too fried to think straight but - I'd have Kiri Pritchard-McLean, Yianni, Jordan Brookes, Sooz Kempner, Tez Ilyas, and Laura Lexx.
Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.
My daughter, because that means I've lost her for a period of time and who knows what she's drawn on.
Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,800+ other Fringe offerings listed on BCG this year?
It's genuinely funny and it tackles some topics which don't usually get talked about on stage.
'Taylor Glenn: A Billion Days of Parenthood' is at Just The Tonic at the Caves at 9:20pm until the 28th August. Listing
