Nath Valvo: 10 Edinburgh Fringe questions

Nath Valvo

Nath Valvo answers 10 questions about his 2016 Edinburgh Fringe show.

Give us a quick overview of your comedy career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?

I'm happy where I'm at! Sitting in a wanky, over priced café right now - feels just like Melbourne.
After showing off at school for years and years at 18 I jumped into community radio and TV. In 2003 I started with a skit group called The Shambles. Character stuff, improv etc. We then moved to live shows and did 5 years of festivals across Australia (never made enough money to eat but let's not bang on about it too much or this will start to sound like a country song).
Then I jumped into solo stand-up. Totally different beast, hey. A radio station in Oz paid me to talk rubbish every week. That was very nice of them. I've performed 6 solo shows at the Aussie comedy festivals and now I am ready to lose my Edinburgh Fringe virginity. Hold me.

Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself.

1. I have a tattoo of Kylie Minogue on my body.
2. I still believe in Santa.
3. I am good at answering these questions.

Describe your new show in exactly 23 words.

Jokes. Teenagers. Family. Sex. Gym. Paleo. Grindr. Boyfriend. Christmas. Nineties. School. Puberty. Porn. Relationships. Santa. Mum. Gluten. Prison. Weddings. Football. Tinder. Flying. Tetris.

Any cunning plans to get more punters in?

Is public nudity illegal in Edinburgh?

What's your plan for trying to eat - and drink - healthily during the Fringe?

I have been told by my peers to give up before I get there on eating healthy. It would be easy for me to blame being in a foreign country for bad diet but at this year's Melbourne Comedy Festival - my home town - I lived on convenience stores sandwiches and multi-vitamins.

What will you miss most while you're away from home?

Seeing the sun.

Aside from performing, what else are you looking forward to doing in Scotland's fine capital?

According to Instagram I see a lot of comedians in active wear walking up some sort of hill to see a seat. As I am a sheep I shall do this too. I'm also going to try and see some castles. I need to please my inner princess.

If you took over programming a Fringe venue, what would your perfect line-up of comedians be?

Tom Ballard, Susie Youseff, Nazeem Hussain, Rhys Nicholson, Gillian Cosgriff, David O'Doherty and Zoe Lyons.

Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.

Mostly my producer as she keeps asking me to flyer for the show and I will most likely just be sitting in a café checking Facebook.

Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,800+ other Fringe offerings listed on BCG this year?

There re 1,800 other shows?! Dear oh dear! My show has heaps of rants I think most people will relate to! I share some humiliating stuff that will make any feel better about their own life. Cheaper than therapy too!

'Nath Valvo: Happy Idiot' is at Gilded Balloon at 6:45pm on 3-15, 17-28 Aug. Listing
