Michelle Brasier: 10 Edinburgh Fringe questions
Michelle Brasier answers 10 questions about her 2016 Edinburgh Fringe show...
Give us a quick overview of your comedy career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?
I started doing comedy about five years ago with a group called Backwards Anorak. I wrote my first solo show last year when I found out that my brother was dying from the same cancer that my dad died from. It made me want to do things that I was scared of - and not to waste any time, so I wrote this show about joy and tried to make people feel good. I'm really happy with where I'm at right now! The comedy world is wonderful and supportive and stupid. Which is perfect.
Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself (but mix them up, keep us guessing!).
1. I set myself on fire and had to learn to walk again.
2. I was born with 10 fingers but one was in the wrong place.
2. I am distantly related to Pochohontas.
Describe your new show in exactly 23 words.
Eric the tortoise works in retail and wants to be an astronaut. Singing. Beer Pong. Glittery pants. A wind machine. Also recorder solos.
Any cunning plans to get more punters in?
I think if I tell people it's a children's show they will go for it. It looks like it could be a children's show. It absolutely is not.
What's your plan for trying to eat - and drink - healthily during the Fringe?
Pumpkin Brown on the Grass market is super healthy! They even do good coffee! So I have made friends with them and now i walk in there all dazed and they just tell me what to eat. It is excellent.
What will you miss most while you're away from home?
Coffee. Isn't that shit? It is true though. Coffee and money.
Aside from performing, what else are you looking forward to doing in Scotland's fine capital?
Drinking.
If you took over programming a Fringe venue, what would your perfect line-up of comedians be?
Aunty Donna, Tessa Waters, Ro Hutson, Gillian Cosgriff, Heidi O'Loughlin, Rhys Nicholson, Zoe Coombs Marr, Oh there are too many don't make me do this please?
Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.
My mother, because I owe her money.
Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,800+ other Fringe offerings listed on BCG this year?
Because I can promise that you will leave feeling super dooper warm and happy.
'Michelle Brasier: Space Tortoise' is at Gilded Balloon at 2:45pm until the 14th August. Listing
