The Kagools: 10 Edinburgh Fringe questions
The Kagools - Nicola Wilkinson and Claire Ford - answer 10 questions about their 2016 Edinburgh Fringe show...
Give us a quick overview of your comedy career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?
We met 10 years ago and were doing comedy separately so decided to join forces and 3 years ago, The Kagools was born. This has been an amazing year for us so far, we've just come back from a tour of Australia, which was an incredible experience. We did a preview of our new show at the Buxton Fringe and won best comedy, which was a lovely welcome back to the UK. Edinburgh is our home festival and we're excited to share our new show, Tutti, with the audiences here.
Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself.
1. Wilkinson has a doppelganger on prime time American television.
2. She has a degree in contemporary dance.
3. She has a chicken named after her.
1. Ford can't whistle.
2. She was a security guard at Princess Diana's funeral.
3. She is banned from a casino in Brisbane.
Describe your new show in exactly 23 words.
It's spontaneous anarchic fun. A unique experience. Magical and surprising. Wordless but not silent. High energy. Physical. There's a life-size unicorn in it.
Any cunning plans to get more punters in?
Keep an eye out for us driving the streets of Edinburgh in our Kagool-mobiles.
What's your plan for trying to eat - and drink - healthily during the Fringe?
We're just not even going to try. Pass the sauce!
What will you miss most while you're away from home?
We're currently nomads so there's not much to miss. We're enjoying life on the road.
Aside from performing, what else are you looking forward to doing in Scotland's fine capital?
We might take a walk around Arthur's seat and head to The Sheep's Heid in Duddingstone and have a pint away from the madness.
If you took over programming a Fringe venue, what would your perfect line-up of comedians be?
Trygve Wakenshaw, Javier Jarquin, Kat Bond, Douglas Walker, Stephen K Amos, Rowena Hutson, JunNk (we just saw them today and they rocked)... erm, so many, too many, we don't want to be programmers, it's a tough job!
Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.
Wilkinson's doppelganger.
Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,800+ other Fringe offerings listed on BCG this year?
At the largest arts festival in the world choosing what to see can be a bit of a risk. We'd like to think that we're a risk worth taking.
• Audiences and critics alike have said some wonderful things about us.
• The show has broad appeal, so you can come with the whole crew. There's no chance that your aunty Doris will get upset (unless she hates unicorns). Equally, if you thought you were never gonna like the same thing as your aunty Doris, let us surprise you!
• It's free, so what do you have to lose? Come along, have fun and take a punt, you'll be glad you did.
'The Kagools' is at Just The Tonic at the Caves at 5:15pm on 4-14, 16-28 Aug. Listing
