Jenny Collier: 10 Edinburgh Fringe questions

Jenny Collier

Jenny Collier answers 10 questions about her 2016 Edinburgh Fringe show...

Give us a quick overview of your comedy career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?

I did my first gig in 2011 but only really started gigging regularly in the summer of 2012. Since then I've been a total keeno, gigging all the time all over the place and quitting my real job. I'm really pleased to be where I am now. I signed with an agent last year which has made the transition to 'full-time comedian' a lot smoother than it could have been without them.

Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself.

1. I recently lived in Jeremy Paxman's house for a whole year and he never saw me.

2. I once jumped out of a car moving at 60mph, just for the lolz.

3. I often buy children's clothes because they are cheaper and 'cooler' than adults'.

Describe your new show in exactly 23 words.

Have you ever waved at someone who was waving at someone behind you? My life has been that, but worse, for 32 years.

Any cunning plans to get more punters in?

Doing silly amounts of spots in other shows and flyering. Neither of those are very cunning though. Ummm, stand outside the venue saying rain is forecast at 5.30pm so they'd better get their asses in to my show.

What's your plan for trying to eat - and drink - healthily during the Fringe?

I've done a practice month of sobriety so I'm going to try to continue that for at least the first week. I expect I'll last an hour after arriving, and that's only because I have a tech run.

What will you miss most while you're away from home?

My car: Manuel the Manual. I'm leaving him behind and I don't think he knows yet.

Aside from performing, what else are you looking forward to doing in Scotland's fine capital?

Arthur's Seat. Every year I say I'll go up and never do. Also maybe the beach. Is it swimmable?

If you took over programming a Fringe venue, what would your perfect line-up of comedians be?

Daniel Kitson

Stewart Lee

Richard Herring

Eleanor Tiernan

Tamar Broadbent

Larry Dean

Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.

The girl I'm subletting my room in London to. She's lovely, but who's watering my plants?

Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,800+ other Fringe offerings listed on BCG this year?

Do you really want to trawl through 1,799 more shows descriptions? Ohmygod me neither! We are so alike, you and me. I think you'd like my show. Also there's a part in it where (in the last 4 previews) people have got their phones out to take pictures whilst exclaiming, "Oh my god!" If that doesn't entice you, I don't know what will.

'Jenny Collier: Jen-Hur' is at Underbelly Med Quad at 5:30pm on 3-28 Aug. Listing
