Isle of Edna: 10 Edinburgh Fringe questions

Isle of Edna answer 10 questions about their 2016 Edinburgh Fringe show.

Give us a quick overview of your comedy career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?

We met at drama school and in 2009 when we graduated we started performing and writing together. We had the idea to talk about gentrification because we both live in Hackney and were inspired by a street near where we both live which is going through some changes! We have been writing about the topic since 2012 - initially as a mockumentary and then we started trying the material at scratch nights and developed the live show, Isle of Edna: G Street. We are really happy with where we are at with the show - we had to do a number of re-writes because gentrification just gets more and more ridiculous so we've had to take it further each time! By working on this show, we've also found our style - narrative character sketch comedy with a topical theme.

Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself.

1. We once nearly killed a bulldog.
2. We have strong connections with Italy.
3. We are both avocado intolerant.

Describe your new show in exactly 23 words.

Narrative character sketch comedy with live music. Audience invited to become residents of gentrified G Street and meet their ill-matched assortment of neighbours

Any cunning plans to get more punters in?

Our tickets are Pay What You Want. We've been releasing sketches with some of our characters, particularly Tobias and Jimbo, our hipsters and these feature the real life Edna the bulldog. We are also taking photographs of our favourite beards on the Mile and instagraming them #edfringebeards

What's your plan for trying to eat - and drink - healthily during the Fringe?

We've just cooked a kilo of pasta that we will put in Tupperware boxes and eat at regular intervals throughout the festival! We will also be taking advantage of any free food or drink that is offered.

What will you miss most while you're away from home?

Ang will miss her bike, Anna her trumpet

Aside from performing, what else are you looking forward to doing in Scotland's fine capital?

Checking out all the other shows - obviously comedy but we want to see lots of different things. We also are filming a pilot in September so will be doing some work on that - the production company have asked for our input on casting so we are keeping an eye out for some people who might be right.

If you took over programming a Fringe venue, what would your perfect line-up of comedians be?

Monty Python
French and Saunders
The League of Gentlemen
Sarah Pascoe
Bridget Christie
Cardinal Burns
Tim Key
Eastend Cabaret
Norris and Parker
Max and Ivan
Mixed Doubles

Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.

The creepy and sinister clowns who cycle on massive trikes with swings underneath for children to sit on. Luckily the cobbled streets of Edinburgh will not be good for them so we think we are safe (if you don't know what we are talking about, be thankful. It is like real life giant man from Saw movies).

Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,800+ other Fringe offerings listed on BCG this year?

It's an original topic that people can really relate to. We don't think anyone has written a live comedy show about gentrification before.

'Isle of Edna: G Street' is at Just the Tonic at The Mash House at 7pm on 4-14, 16-28 Aug. Listing
