Best Boy: 10 Edinburgh Fringe questions
Best Boy answer 10 questions about their 2016 Edinburgh Fringe show.
Give us a quick overview of your comedy career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?
We started writing together in 2012 and then started performing as Best Boy in 2014. Before Best Boy we wrote sketches for a group of mates that we cobbled together into a sketch group, but we quickly learned that trying to get 6 people to rehearse, turn up for shows and accept no money for it was a mammoth challenge. So we ditched those other guys. We are happy with where we're at now. We had a game plan of where we needed to be after this long and we're mostly keeping to it.
Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself (but mix them up, keep us guessing!).
1. Dan got a tattoo from Top Shop and he got it for a sketch.
2. Charlie is taking breakdancing classes to prepare for an elaborate sketch we have in the pipeline.
3. Both of us fainted during sex education as children.
Describe your new show in exactly 23 words.
Fast-paced fun; sharp, chaotic, surprisingly dark, and oh so funny. It will leave you saying 'oh my God!' (but in a good way).
Any cunning plans to get more punters in?
We are sponsored by a particular brand of meat based snack to perform a sketch that mentions them. As a result our audiences can expect to be showered with this snack, so if they're after free food they should buy a ticket!
What's your plan for trying to eat - and drink - healthily during the Fringe?
There is no plan. Every now and then we'll realise we haven't eaten any vegetables and have a binge, but mostly we're eating carbs and processed meat. Mmmm. De-li-cious.
What will you miss most while you're away from home?
Home comforts are always missed. And Dan will miss his shower, because it's definitely better than the one in the flat we have in Edinburgh.
Aside from performing, what else are you looking forward to doing in Scotland's fine capital?
Seeing other shows! There are so many great acts up here and being here for a month is brilliant because we get to see so many of them. We really want to see some harrowing theatre that'll make us weep - you know, once we're sick to the teeth of comedy.
If you took over programming a Fringe venue, what would your perfect line-up of comedians be?
The League of Gentlemen.
Mitchell & Webb.
The ghosts of Peter Cook and Dudley Moore.
Dave Allen (who is also dead).
Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.
Death. We fear the reaper.
Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,800+ other Fringe offerings listed on BCG this year?
Because it's on at the peak hour for comedy (2.40pm). Or rather, it's one of the earlier comedy shows of the day - the perfect way to kick start your comedy viewing after you've had some lovely haggis for lunch. Also the show is brilliant and we worked really, really hard on it and we want to make people laugh.
'Best Boy' is at Underbelly, Cowgate at 2:40pm until the 28th August. Listing
