Alice Marshall: 10 Edinburgh Fringe questions

Alice Marshall

Alice Marshall answers 10 questions about her 2016 Edinburgh Fringe show...

Give us a quick overview of your comedy career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?

My first gig was as a cast member of the world famous NewsRevue, first at its London home at the Canal Cafe Theatre and then as one of the Edinburgh cast in 2014. Following in the footsteps of so many other ex-NewsRevuers I then decided to start doing my own stuff, and everything has grown from there really.

Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself (but mix them up, keep us guessing!).

1. I have a heart condition (if you hit me, it's murder).

2. I once put my face in Sharon Osbourne's boobs.

3. The last time I flew to America I was so scared I tried to get off half-way through the flight.

Describe your new show in exactly 23 words.

Vicious is a bizarre, ugly, sexy, disgusting, stupid, nasty and silly character show about why people can be so awful to each other.

Any cunning plans to get more punters in?

One of the main characters in the show is a terrifying relationship guru called Greta Medina. She can be a bit scary, so I might give out flyers as Greta and try to intimidate people into coming. People love being intimidated. No?

What's your plan for trying to eat - and drink - healthily during the Fringe?

I've just bought two bananas and a bit of broccoli from a shop. If I ration them out over the month that should do me.

What will you miss most while you're away from home?

I would say my lovely flat in Tooting but we've got a savage infestation of mice at the moment, so actually, good riddance to it. My flatmates can deal with that and I can have all the fun. Which seems fair.

Aside from performing, what else are you looking forward to doing in Scotland's fine capital?

This is my third visit to the Edinburgh Fringe and I've still never been up Arthur's seat, so I guess that will have to happen. Although I've got a dodgy heart which is a pain in the arse, but a really good excuse when it comes to getting out of anything physically strenuous (which I realise has just ruined question 2. Sorry).

If you took over programming a Fringe venue, what would your perfect line-up of comedians be?

Can I bring people back from the dead? I can? Ok great. In that case I would programme all my comedy heroes to create my ultimate line-up. We'd have all the Smack The Pony ladies, Eddie Izzard, Dylan Moran, The League of Gentlemen, and in a miraculous and wonderful occurrence we'd have Rik Mayall headlining.

Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.

I actually did bump into Eddie Izzard last year and made an absolute moron out of myself, so I'd be keen to not repeat that experience.

Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,800+ other Fringe offerings listed on BCG this year?

When it comes to character comedy, Vicious is just a little bit out of the ordinary. It's got something for everyone - there's stand-up, clowning, impressions, videos, music - it's sexy and it's gross all at the same time. I'm not saying it's the thing to fill that hole you've always felt in your life, but you know... maybe...

'Alice Marshall: Vicious' is at Just The Tonic at the Caves at 5:20pm until the 28th August. Listing
