Bae: 10 Edinburgh Fringe questions

Image shows from L to R: Nina Millns, Sophie Morgan

Bae - aka Nina Millns and Sophie Morgan-Price - answer 10 questions about their 2016 Edinburgh Fringe show, Help.

Give us a quick overview of your comedy career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?

Nina started as a straight actress ten years ago and fell into playing comedy roles. She won MonologueSlam with a comedic monologue, worked in Marcus Brigstocke's Giles Wemmbley Hogg for BBC Radio 4 and appeared in Channel 4's PhoneShop. She founded comedy collective Bad Handshake and her work was nominated for an award at London SketchFest 2015.
Sophie is an award-winning playwright, having staged her supermarket-based, comedy play, TRACY, in Edinburgh where it then transferred to London. This year she revisits TRACY at Underbelly, Med Quad.

We formed comedy duo Bae at the beginning of the year after meeting at a writers' group. We quickly started performing on the London circuit and we are on Funny Women's "Ones to Watch" list 2016, as well as being the faces of their YouTube channel. We decided to put a show together for Edinburgh around March and it has been a very intense few months trying to catch up with all of those who started in January! We are so chuffed at how quickly things are moving but won't be completely satisfied until we have reached Eddie and Patsy status.

Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself.

Nina:
1. I speak four languages.
2. Cariad Lloyd is my best friend.
3. I once spent an entire date with a prawn down my cleavage.

Sophie:
1. I can get my arms around my body like a skipping rope... without letting go of my hands.
2. I have white eyelashes.
3. I love the sound of rain on my window pane.

Describe your new show in exactly 23 words.

Nina & Sophie in unison:
An aura-transforming, comedy self-help seminar where you will be touched physically and metaphorically and sent out into the world transformed. Namaste.

Any cunning plans to get more punters in?

Nina: Pimp out Sophie.
Sophie: What Nina said.

What's your plan for trying to eat - and drink - healthily during the Fringe?

Nina: I got through uni by making sure I ate broccoli with everything. I have now filled my shelf of the fridge with broccoli. It's already started to smell a bit strange... But not sure if that's just Sophie...
Sophie: I think it's already so stressful up here, I don't plan on paying much attention to what I eat. Everything in moderation, apart from the broccoli of course. As for exercise, we'll be walking enough! I think I've already lost 3 pounds. True story.

What will you miss most while you're away from home?

Nina: My bed.
Sophie: Alone time.

Aside from performing, what else are you looking forward to doing in Scotland's fine capital?

Nina: Eating a haggis burger. Eating haggis ravioli. Drinking haggis-infused craft beer.
Sophie: I'm a veggie so I won't be partaking in the haggis. I'm looking forward to reading a book in a café with a glass of wine... It will be a Scottish cafe and a Scottish wine. Does Scottish wine exist?

If you took over programming a Fringe venue, what would your perfect line-up of comedians be?

Nina: Josie Lawrence, Cariad Lloyd, Bridget Christie, Desiree Burch, Kerry Godliman... and maybe a man.
Sophie : Yeah, like Michael McIntyre.

Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.

Nina: Tom Hardy. He blatantly fancies me and it's getting a bit awkward.
Sophie: Naw... he fancies me, me, me.

Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,800+ other Fringe offerings listed on BCG this year?

Funny Women have said, "two impressive comedy talents have joined forces to create a new duo", so be the first to discover us before we reach the next stage of fame and enlightenment. Help is a joyous 50 minutes that we can all relate to. We explore the characters and cliche's from the self-help world that are all too familiar to us and take you on a spiritual journey that will leave you transformed. Also, (Nina) Sophie has great legs. (Sophie) As do you babe.

'Help' is at Just the Tonic at The Mash House at 11:45am on 5-10, 12-14, 16-19, 21-27 Aug. Listing
