2015 Edinburgh Fringe
Aaaaaaaaaaaaarrghhh! It's the Increasingly Prestigious Malcolm Hardee Comedy Awards Show - and It's Free!
Anarchic annual two-hour charity show celebrating the late Godfather of Alternative Comedy. Running since 2005. Three awards, oodles of bizarre and/or sometimes offensive acts. The Greatest Show on Legs. The Scottish National Russian Egg Roulette Championship. Some nudity. Some swearing. A lot of laughs. New Fringe legends created in memory of a Fringe legend.

Awards and a very offensive act at the Fringe
At yesterday's Grouchy Club the star of the previous show in the room, gentlemanly Peter Michael Marino, gallantly went to kiss our Jewish comedy princess Arlene Greenhouse's hand. Unfortunately, her hand twitched and hit him in the face. Late last night, he was still nursing a bruised lip.

Tomorrow night, the Malcolm Hardee Comedy Awards are announced at the annual two hour variety show in his memory. He drowned ten years ago, in 2005.

British Comedy Guide, 25th August 2015The trauma of a 5* review & why I don't like fauning
Maybe absurdism and 'outa left field' comedians are starting to make inroads into mainstream media consciousness. Even if I have no idea what 'outa left field' actually specifically means.
John Fleming, John Fleming's Blog, 23rd August 2015Comedian and comedy critic in fist fight at Fringe
Comedians and critics tend to have a love-hate relationship. Critics tend to love comedy and comics tend to hate critics.
John Fleming, John Fleming's Blog, 22nd August 2015When is a cunning stunt not cunning?
One agent/promoter was telling me he had a stunt to publicise one of his acts which he reckoned was going to put all the traffic in Edinburgh into gridlock and he was trying to persuade me this would be worthy of an increasingly prestigious Malcolm Hardee Cunning Stunt Award nomination. But this would be more likely to get the act thrown out of their venue, him prosecuted and the show loathed by locals rather than an award nomination.

John Fleming, John Fleming's Blog, 5th August 2015Malcolm Hardee - 10 years dead & his Awards are working
The first award in 2005 was intended as a one-off to mark his passing and was called the Oy Oy Award because we couldn't think of anything better but, in 2007, it became the annual Malcolm Hardee Comedy Award. And there are now three annual Malcolm Hardee Awards, due to run until 2017 because that's the number of awards I got made, on the basis I might not be able to afford to have any more made after 2017. Amazing foresight on my part.
John Fleming, John Fleming's Blog, 31st March 2015How do you win an Cunning Stunt Award?
Every August at the Edinburgh Fringe, I give away three increasingly prestigious Malcolm Hardee Comedy Awards in memory of the godfather of British alternative comedy. One of these is a Cunning Stunt Award for the best stunt publicising a Fringe show or act. And every year, around this time, people ask me for the definition of Cunning.
