Edinburgh Q and A

Wayne Carter answers 10 Edinburgh Fringe Questions

Wayne Carter

Wayne Carter invites his audiences to go drinking with him after his late-night show.

1. Tell us about your career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?

I started comedy in late 2013 in Adelaide Australia. I was fortunate enough to perform in and around Adelaide Fringe in 2014 and then I moved to London where I had to start from the bottom and work my way up. This will be my first solo show and my first time at Edinburgh Fringe. This excites and terrifies me, one thing that doesn't terrify me though, the stage.

2. Describe your show in exactly 23 words.

A comedic train wreck of emotions that will leave the audience questioning either their sanity or Wayne's lip-syncs, dance breaks and silly stories.

3. Why are you putting yourself through this famously stressful experience?

Simple. The love of performing. I love to entertain to make people feel something.

4. Any cunning plans to get more punters in?

Busking and flyering in my costumes!

5. How much money do you think you'll lose/make this year?

I am not going into this festival with the aim to obtain money, I am there to make friends, gain connections, see how the festival works and just perform. If people like what I do, then awesome. If not I know I am happy with what I have produced. Money is not everything.

6. What's your weirdest past Fringe experience?

At the Adelaide Fringe, winning the best dancer competition at the artists' bar. I was drunk and I was competing against actual trained professional dancers.

7. What other shows are you hoping to see?

Too many to name. I am spoilt for choice I can't wait to see my new English friends in their shows. My Aussie mates rocking it out as well as seeing new and interesting acts.

8. If you took over programming a venue, what would you perfect line-up of comedians be?

I hate the 'mainstream' so my shows would all have something 'unique' about them. Eddie Izzard, French & Saunders are 'mainstream' examples of the kinds of crazy people I would love to have.

9. Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.

Those old dudes from the muppets. Those guys are the worst critics ever.

10. Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,700+ other comedy offerings at this year's festival?

Because I am cool? Or simply because you will have a laugh you will see a show and at the end of my show the venue turns into a dance party bar so you can kick on and drink with me after the show.

'Wayne Carter Teaches You How To Be Fabulous' is at 11:15pm at New Waverley Arches on 7-31 August. Listing
