The Wrestling

The Wrestling returns to the Edinburgh Fringe this year for another one-off performance. Tickets for the Pleasance Grand show on the 18th August have pretty much already sold out, but a further 100 tickets have just gone on sale today.

The Wrestling - devised by comedy double act Max & Ivan - sees comedians taking on real wrestlers in a proper ring, with comedy commentary and side spectacles added on for laughs. The first show in 2012, in which Max broke an ankle after somersaulting fifteen feet onto the floor, won multiple awards, including Foster's Edinburgh Comedy Awards Panel Prize.

For the first time ever, this year's main event will be a spectacular Battle Royale match. There will be no teams, no captains and no allies - it's all against all, as 20 wrestlers and comedians go to war. The comedian contestants already announced include Aisling Bea, Lou Sanders, Joel Dommett, Tom Parry, Mike Wozniak and Joe Lycett. Also, Brendon Burns and Andrew Maxwell will once again be on hand with live commentary, Nick Helm is back as The Ring Announcer and Matthew Crosby will be acting as the roaming reporter again.

Additionally, in a separate fight but part of the same event, Max & Ivan will be looking to finally settle their brutal five year feud in their first ever one-on-one fight. Who will win?

Ahead of the epic battles, the various participants have been making videos:

First up, here's Max & Ivan talking about their forthcoming fight:

Meanwhile, looking ahead to the Battle Royale fight, Matthew 'The Pacificst' Crosby talks to Mike 'The Squadron Leader' Wozniak:

Aisling 'Revenge For The Famine' Bea looks ready to do some damage this year:

Joe 'The Duchess' Lycett says he will destroy the opposition:

London's number one traffic warden, Tom 'The Parrylel Parker' Parry is heading up north to take part in the fight:

It's going to be a proper international fight. Chad Buckworth III - who looks a bit like he might be an American cousin of Joel Dommett - will also be in the ring:

We're not quite sure who The Executioner is, but he sounds scary. Here's his manager Nish Kumar talking about his preparations:

The Wrestling won't just feature comedians. It's got proper wrestlers too. As he explains here, Colt Cabana is in the middle of that venn diagram:

'The Prince of Mumbai' Rishi Ghosh will be back, and he's more confident this time:

Another wrestler taking part is 'The Villain' Marty Scurll:

Here's a video from 'The Anarchist' James Castle:

Dan 'The Hammer' Head has filmed this promotional video too:

Meanwhile, looking back at the Max & Ivan fight, it's worth noting that Max is a former wrestler. So, currently training Ivan up for his first ever one-on-one wrestling match is the biggest, baddest man in British wrestling: 'The Alpha Male' Iestyn Rees:

We were thinking of finishing this page off by saying 'break a leg' to all those taking part to wish them luck... but we won't, as we have a feeling some of them might take it as an actual instruction!

'The Wrestling' is at 11pm at The Pleasance Grand (next to Pleasance Courtyard) on 18 August. Listing
