Norm Rocher answers 10 Edinburgh Fringe Questions
Norm Rocher has got hold of Lenny Henry's old Comic Relief costumes. Find out why here...
1. Tell us about your career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?
I first performed comedy alone on stage in 2011; it's been downhill since then.
2. Describe your show in exactly 23 words.
#comicreliefwesternphilanthropiccolonialism andpoliticalantipathyinrésistanceanupdated analysisofthecomediesofidentityinpopularculture
Sound good?
3. Why are you putting yourself through this famously stressful experience?
Well, Lenny Henry FAMOUSLY ignored me backstage at the Leicester Comedy Festival in 2011, this is my bitter and twisted revenge. I want the entire comedy industry to hate me after this one show. If I cannot conjure up the hatred of every single person in comedy this year I'll carry on until I can.
4. Any cunning plans to get more punters in?
I'll be giving away one of Lenny Henry's old Comic Relief costumes which I bought off eBay to someone at the end of the run, if they tweet my hashtag which I mentioned above.
5. How much money do you think you'll lose/make this year?
Tickets for my show are only 50p, or people can come in if they have any £20 notes for a monopoly board as I'm running out of 20s on mine. I stand to make a healthy £7000-8000 this financial year which I plan to invest in tobacco firms and arms companies.
6. What are you most looking forward to about your first Edinburgh Festival?
Seeing if Lenny shows up asking for his costumes back.
7. What other shows are you hoping to see?
I contributed to Bob Slayer's Blundabus Kickstarter thing, so anything he's putting on, looking forward to Ben Target and Ali Brice's shows this year too. All the free stuff I will see as free stuff is where it's at.
8. If you took over programming a venue, what would you perfect line-up of comedians be?
Me, Bill Cosby and Freddie Starr. We'd be called The Three Teddies and it'd be adorable.
9. Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.
Ian Beale - a friend bumped into his once and holiday and I'll never be able to top that anecdote.
10. Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,700+ other comedy offerings at this year's festival?
Look, my show is only 50p, I Hat Lenny Henry doesn't even make sense as a show title. I'll open with a version of Eminem's Stan, only it's going to be about my relationship with Lenny Henry. I'll be talking about the good and the bad of Comic Relief and charity campaigns. They'll be some knock-knock jokes. You might walk away with one of Lenny Henry's old shirts, you'll love it. Come on, the title will make sense by the end.
'I Hat Lenny Henry - 50p a Ticket' is at 10:20am at Greenside @ Infirmary Street on 17-22, 24-29 August. Listing
