Edinburgh Q and A

Mark Nelson answers 10 Edinburgh Fringe Questions

Mark Nelson

Mark Nelson's show sees him exploring the meaning of his life now that he is officially 'Older Than Jesus'.

1. Tell us about your career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?

I started comedy in 2006 and was named Scottish Comedian Of The Year the same year. So far it has gone well. I'm still making people laugh and I haven't killed anyone yet so, all in all, a success.

2. Describe your show in exactly 23 words.

An examination into what it's like for a man to wish he was young again now that he's older than Jesus. With dick jokes.

3. Why are you putting yourself through this famously stressful experience?

I have nothing else to do in the month of August. Plus it is the only time I can legitimise drinking until 7 in the morning.

4. Any cunning plans to get more punters in?

Threats against their family members.

5. How much money do you think you'll lose/make this year?

Enough for Edinburgh to have another go at the trams.

6. What's your weirdest past Fringe experience?

Getting into an argument with the drummer from 90's band Dodgy.

7. What other shows are you hoping to see?

Daniel Sloss, Kai Humphries, Tom Stade, Gavin Webster, Mick Ferry, Matt Reed and so many others.

8. If you took over programming a venue, what would you perfect line-up of comedians be?

Louis CK, Doug Stanhope, Amy Schumer, Bill Burr, Chris Rock. The 5 best comedians in the world right now.

9. Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.

Jesus Christ.

10. Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,700+ other comedy offerings at this year's festival?

I am the only comic at this year's festival who will be healing the sick and turning water into wine.

'Mark Nelson: Older than Jesus' is at 9:15pm at Gilded Balloon on 5-16, 18-30 August. Listing
