Kate Perry answers 10 Edinburgh Fringe Questions
Character comedian, writer and actor Kate Perry talks about performing her first Fringe show.
1. Tell us about your career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?
I started writing and performing my won material when I was an out of work actor in San Francisco in 1995. I thought that if I could make myself laugh why not try it on others. I stopped performing my material and focused on writing for a long time but now I'm delighted to be performing my characters again instead of having people like Tamsin Greig, Conleth Hill, Tracy Ann-Oberman and Doreen Keogh read my work on BBC Radio 4. Just kidding! I was thrilled (to say the least) to have such talented actors perform my work. I love comedy and look forward to seeing lots of funny people at the Fringe.
2. Describe your show in exactly 23 words.
Actor comedienne Kate Perry performs her solo character comedy show featuring six costumes, a can of WD40, a pair of goggles and a rubber hat.
3. Why are you putting yourself through this famously stressful experience?
Beats temping.
4. Any cunning plans to get more punters in?
Yes, but I won't tell you. Comics are cunning types.
5. How much money do you think you'll lose/make this year?
Lose? I have no money to lose.
6. What are you most looking forward to about your first Edinburgh Festival?
Bagging an agent. Getting invited on to the Jonathan Ross and Graham Norton shows. If that fails, getting free counselling at the Fringe. Could get some material!
7. What other shows are you hoping to see?
Any that are comped or five quid . . .
8. If you took over programming a venue, what would you perfect line-up of comedians be?
Gilda Radner, Tommy Cooper, Bridget Christie, Carol Burnett, Josie Long, Tina Fey, Mel Brooks, Gene Wilder, Stewart Lee, Tony Hancock, Ken Campbell, Les Dawson, Madeline Khan . . . it's too much to handle. I quit!
9. Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.
My uncle Charlie. He's dead.
10. Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,700+ other comedy offerings at this year's festival?
I love character comedy so if that's what you're in to - I'm your gal.
'Shh! It's The Very Perry Show' is at 2:40pm at Just the Tonic at The Mash House on 19-30 August. Listing
