Edinburgh Q and A

James Veitch answers 10 Edinburgh Fringe Questions

James Veitch

James Veitch returns to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2015 with his second solo show. He talks about it here.

1. Tell us about your career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?

I began comedy around 2009. About the time that I began working for Apple. I spent a few years knocking around New York being ultra-British to impress girls and performing easy jokes. Then I made it over here and started doing open mic clubs. I really got my break last year when I took my first solo show to the Fringe. It sold out every night and made me very happy.

2. Describe your show in exactly 23 words.

As an Apple Genius I could fix everything. What about heartbreak?; for anyone who's ever had a broken heart ... or a broken iPhone.

3. Why are you putting yourself through this famously stressful experience?

Oh it's not that stressful. Sure, I'll come down with something half way through, chew my nails waiting for a review, fall in love at least six times, see a comedian who makes me feel my show is Spot the Dog to their Farewell to Arms, get well, get sick again, eat poorly, live in a flat with three other comedians and one loo, lose faith, regain faith only to lose it again. Stressful? It's like that guy who got stuck at the top of the mountain and some other guy found him and said "did you come up here to die" and he said "no, I came here because, well I forgot the reason and can you please get me down, it's fucking freezing."

4. Any cunning plans to get more punters in?

Be nice. I'm just going to go out and speak to the people. They like it when I do that. It's much like Moses coming down from the mount. And badges...I have badges again.

5. How much money do you think you'll lose/make this year?

I'm super glad you asked this question.

6.
What's your weirdest past Fringe experience?

Catching Chlamydia from Drew Barrymore in the Yurt.

7. What other shows are you hoping to see?

Sean McLoughlin: Whatever it Takes
We're Not Dogs (only 6-9th)
and I just saw something that looks fantastic: In Case we Disappear

8. If you took over programming a venue, what would you perfect line-up of comedians be?

Richard Pryor (15)
Woody Allen (20)
James Veitch (25)
Mitch Hedberg (20)

9. Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.

Future me. I don't have time to be dealing with fuckups in the space time continuum at the moment. I'm doing a fucking show.

10. Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,700+ other comedy offerings at this year's festival?

Because you don't understand iCloud or relationships either.

'James Veitch: Genius Bar' is at 4:45pm at Pleasance Courtyard on 5-30 August. Listing
