2015 Edinburgh Fringe

Edinburgh Q and A

Geoff Norcott answers 10 Edinburgh Fringe Questions

Geoff Norcott

It's nine years since Geoff Norcott's first Edinburgh Fringe, and this year he's back again. Find out what free goodies to expect at his show.

1. Tell us about your career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?

It started by accident so wherever I'm at is progress. I think the last couple of years I've really worked out what I want to say. It took me 10 years. But I want to say there are a lot of idiots out there.

2. Describe your show in exactly 23 words.

Come scratch the surface of wafer thin intelligence with me and let's point and laugh at the chasm of bullshit that lies beneath.

3. Why are you putting yourself through this famously stressful experience?

I only ever go up to Edinburgh if I have something to say. So far I've had things to say in 2006, 2009, 2012, 2013 and now 2015. Looking at the graph it would seem I'm becoming more opinionated.

4. Any cunning plans to get more punters in?

I'm dishing out free coffee sweets before my show. My time is 14:20 so I want to them to be alert and ready to laugh. Caffeine will help. As far as illegal drugs go it's BYO.

5. How much money do you think you'll lose/make this year?

If I'm not telling my wife I'm definitely not telling you!

6. What's your weirdest past Fringe experience?

Last year I played the part of a early 90s Def Jam comedian. All that sexism and hate, it came alarmingly easy to me.

7. What other shows are you hoping to see?

Katherine Ryan, Tom Stade, James Acaster... Loads!

8. If you took over programming a venue, what would you perfect line-up of comedians be?

I think it would be a lot of Canadians. I don't know what it is, but they live in this fertile comic Venn diagram between Britain and the US and they make comedy that's challenging and fun at the same time.

9. Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.

Kriss Akabusi. His energy intimidates me.

10. Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,700+ other comedy offerings at this year's festival?

1,700? I heard it was 1,000. Oh shit.

'Geoff Norcott: The Look of Moron' is at 2:20pm at Just the Tonic at The Tron on 10-17, 19-29 August. Listing
