Funmbi Omotayo answers 10 Edinburgh Fringe Questions

Funmbi Omotayo

Fresh from BBC One's The John Bishop Show, stand-up Funmbi Omotayo is performing at the Edinburgh Fringe.

1. Tell us about your career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?

It's been a really interesting year, I've been gigging loads and been on The John Bishop Show - so I'm really happy with where I am. But I'm still learning and want to keep working hard.

2. Describe your show in exactly 23 words.

It's a show about self discovery - I talk about growing up in England and then moving to Nigeria, and experiencing two different cultures.

3. Why are you putting yourself through this famously stressful experience?

I wish I could answer that myself, I ask myself everyday! I fear it so much that I need to do it. It's not an easy ride but if it was, everyone would do it. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

4. Any cunning plans to get more punters in?

After my extra shows I'll exit, flyer and smile a lot, I hope my smile will get people in. There will be lots of smiling.

5. How much money do you think you'll lose/make this year?

I've not been thinking about that, it's not about the money, it's the experience.

6. What's your weirdest past Fringe experience?

There was a time when I split an hour with Prince Abdi and there were these ten German people in the front row. Who knew that what Germany was missing was a bit of Funmbi. It was weird, I still wonder how they heard about it.

7. What other shows are you hoping to see?

I want to catch all the new people doing their first shows, and I also want to watch someone I wouldn't normally go and see, to get a different perspective.

8. If you took over programming a venue, what would you perfect line-up of comedians be?

Richard Pryor, Bill Hicks, Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle and me compering.

9. Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.

All the reviewers, I'd rather not bump into them... but I do want them to come to my show!

10. Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,700+ other comedy offerings at this year's festival?

Where else are they going to get the minority report?

'Funmbi Omotayo: Legal Immigrant' is at 9pm at Gilded Balloon on 6-30 August. Listing
