Franks & Skinner answers 10 Edinburgh Fringe Questions

Franks and Skinner can be seen at this year's festival. That's the double-act comprising of Lizzie Franks and Nerine Skinner, not the TV star. Confused? The sketch duo answer our questions below...

1. Tell us about your career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?

We both had careers as actresses and met working in panto in Newport, South Wales playing two types of French bread, Baguette and Croissant and a comedy double act was born. Our all-embracing attitude to comedy found us discovering our physical side as a pair of compering clowns at the Rich Mix Theatre, London. We then honed our improvisatory skills at the Stockton International Festival, as Russian, Cossack dancing, Frog tamers.

Recognising that we shared a whacky, subversive view of the world and with a background and training in dance and musical theatre, we decided to create surreal and unconventional sketches, characters and routines which gave us the formula for Franks and Skinner Present: Myself and Myself.

We are extremely happy 'with where we are at' (just a little overwhelmed!).

2. Describe your show in exactly 23 words.

An eclectic mix of song, dance, improvisation, sketches, saxophone, flute, pregnant clown, and 90s pop. A surreal take on friendship, fertilisation and funkiness.

3. Why are you putting yourself through this famously stressful experience?

Why indeed!!!

4. Any cunning plans to get more punters in?

We'll start with flyering and engaging people in witty banter, chit-chat and appealing to their sense of taste and refinement. We are also going to perform at Street Events on the Middle Stage on the 7th, 15th, 19th and 23rd August at 14:20. If all that fails - Press ganging!!

5. How much money do you think you'll lose/make this year?

We've not experienced any of this before and so we feel predicting anything would be a dangerous game!! We would be ecstatic to end up a penny in profit. That said £1000 profit would be nice!!

6. What are you most looking forward to about your first Edinburgh Festival?

Being with and around so many like-minded people and feeling part of a Global phenomenon. It will be wonderful to have the opportunity to perform our show for 28 nights and discover more about it and ourselves!!

7. What other shows are you hoping to see?

As much as possible. James Veitch is a definite and Jurassic Park sounds great. We will support the acts that are also on at Just the Tonic and we want to see the shows that are on at The Pleasance having had so much support ourselves from Amy Clamp at The Pleasance in London, including doing our preview there. Other than that we will look around and be 'in the moment' about it all!

8. If you took over programming a venue, what would you perfect line-up of comedians be?

Groucho Marx followed by Tommy Cooper then Steve Coogan as Partridge, who would introduce Simon Pegg, Amy Poehler and Kristen Wiig.

9. Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.

Cactus-man.

10. Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,700+ other comedy offerings at this year's festival?

We're loud, we're proud, we're placid, we're flaccid. Where else are you going to find that, PLUS 2 Lorraine Kellys, 2 Cilla Blacks a couple of dysfunctional vampires and the odd Elf for good measure?!!

'Franks and Skinner Present: Myself and Myself' is at 10:40pm at Just the Tonic at The Mash House on 6-17, 19-30 August. Listing
